Taunton Hash House Harriers was founded by Steve Johnson and Tim Seddon who were initiated into the mysteries of Hashing when living in Hong Kong whilst working for HM Government.
On their return to UK they discussed setting up a Hash in Taunton and advertised in the local newspaper. They were delighted to receive a hearty response and organised a get together to organise the Taunton Hash House Harriers.
Their inaugural run was held at the Anchor Inn, Hillfarrance on 8th November 1982. They were supported by guest appearances from stalwarts of the Cheltenham and Cotswold Hash House Harriers and their Grand Master at the time, Mike Wallace. The publicity surrounding their first run was supplemented by a photograph and a write up in the Somerset County Gazette.
The Hash was run on an ad-hoc basis by Steve and Tim until February 1984 then spurred by Steve's impending absence overseas again, a committee was formed after a meeting at Dave & Andrea Whyborn's house in Trull
Since then the Taunton Hash has met over 1000 times with the 1000th run at the Quantock Lodge (near Nether Stowey) in September 2001. To date (May 2008) we have run 1366 times.
